ANSELMIANS U10’s MATCH REPORTS

The Saints v Oswestry
9/10/16

“Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!”

MOTM - Max Frodsham

I can’t believe we didn’t win this game - I was genuinely shocked when Norm told me that we had lost. Thinking about it we did gift Os a couple of tries but after opening up a three try lead it was difficult to see how we could lose this game. Maybe some of our strike runners didn’t “strike” but we were so much better than last week.

A very physical Oswestry showed up and certainly ran hard and direct, they had some serious size on their side too. They were hard and strong and right “on the line”, but The Saints were technically far better than their counterparts. With such fantastic numbers we were able to field two strong teams and I was so proud of the boys who kept on fighting and playing well throughout, despite the physicality they were up against. Once again we were much smaller than our opposition but we played with heart and deserved the win.

The boys worked hard on what the coaches asked of them and were much better than last week. We managed the breakdown very well and defended much, much better than last week, although at times we ran a little bit sideways and could do with backing ourselves just a little bit. As a coach I could not be happier - these boys are listening and working hard to do what is asked of them, and it will definitely come. We will always be a team that are a little “lightweight” but we certainly pack a punch and fight above our weight!

Some amazing performances, starting with Lewis Cairns scoring 4 tries, Sam Booth was fantastic going forward with plenty of grit and determination. Toby Anderson is really beginning to hit his straps and not committing too early to the tackle, Will O’Halloran was great again at the breakdown, Cael Johnston is so new to the game but he was really keen to get involved and is working really hard to understand the game. Oliver Arnold continues to play rugby beyond his years and seems to understand and read the game like someone who is a seasoned “pro”, he certainly punches well above his weight; Conor Grealis was like a Tasmanian Devil in defence and none did pass! Finally, our “Man of the Match” was the ever impressive Max Frodsham, the work he does that is seen is impressive but what really makes the coaches happy is the work he does that “no-one” sees - Well done Maxey!!

Looking forward to building on this next week in training, see you there!
