"Winning start but plenty to work on"

ANSELMIANS U10’s MATCH REPORTS

Hoylake v The Saints
2/10/16

“A winning start but plenty to work on!”

MOTM - William Fildes

Let’s start with the positives, we won and had some good performances, in attack we looked really impressive at times, however, we have a lot to work on. The boys were in good spirits and we had fantastic numbers (16) for our first game of the season. As if this wasn’t a hard enough game, we also had some new rules to get used to! Scrummaging, rucking & mauling will certainly take some getting used to and as we all know this game is a very complicated one.

As I’ve just said this was our first game of the season and some were rusty, some were tired and others were on a different planet! Seriously though, those of us that have played will remember those first few games of the season, the body is simply not ready for those elbows and knees flying into our softer bits! All this considered the boys put in some really good individual performances, playing a number of 10 minute sessions against the 8-man Hoylake.

Hoylake fielded a very large, physical and hard running group of boys & girls but overall we managed to edge them through being technically better at the break down. When they ran hard at us we were found wanting a little bit as our defence was not at its best, but thanks to the boys learning fast, they managed the breakdown better than Hoylake and eventually came out on top.

Some excellent individual performances this morning and as usual it is impossible to mention everyone but some boys stood out for me, Max Frodsham was impressive going forward with venom and working hard to secure the ball at the breakdown. Will Gavin-Cooper also was very impressive at the ruck where he managed to keep boys twice his size off the ball to secure it for his team. Luke Murphy, Josh Roe, Felix James & Ben Wood all looked impressive in attack. Finally our “Man of the Match” was William Fildes who worked tirelessly in attack and presenting the ball for his team to win - well done WillF.

Looking forward to building on this for next week against Oswestry at the Malone Field of Dreams See you there!
