ANSELMIANS U11’s MATCH REPORT
The Saints v Parkonians RFC
05/11/17
“Great result – keep it up!”
Anselmians 65 – 5 Parkonians
MOTM – Oscar Edmunds
Parent’s Player – Ben Griffiths
This week we welcomed our good friends from Parkonians, who last year gave us our only proper thrashing all season! With heavy storms overnight Malone fields held up brilliantly and although wet underfoot (and heavy going grass!) the rain thankfully held off.
Some very good performances this week and a good result but the Coaches felt we really didn't perform at our best - we seemed to be good but not at our best! This is a great sign and one that means we can really push on and get to another level.
After some tense opening exchanges with both sides going at each other, Saints managed to braek the deadlock with Ben Griffiths getting the ball in some space and absolutely gassing the opposition. This pretty much continued throughout the game and for some inexplicable reason (Jools will have to explain this to me) Parks continued to kick the ball to us which mean there were huge gaps in their defence for us to exploit.
Lead superbly by captain Conor Grealis, the boys managed to front up and completely nullify the opposition threats - Jools said exactly this to me after the game. We played the ball up the middle and drew in their defence then gave the balls to our flyers to score the tries - SIMPLE GAME FOR SIMPLE PLAYERS!
Some outstanding performances today Max Frodsham was immense at the break-down, winning us ball after ball, and he also looked quite menacing in attack too! William Gavin-Cooper, Finnan Ashton & Jasper Richards all had a very good day all-round. Ben Griffiths and Eroll Gilgeours were so dangerous in attack scoring 5 tries between them, with Eroll making some terrific off-loads out of the tackle.
However, our Man of the Match this week was Oscar Edmunds who was brilliant all round, he makes sensible decisions at difficult times. The moment of the match was when the fleet-footed Parks centre was storming down the wing after breaking out of a couple of tackles, only for Oscar to fly across the field and take him out with an absolutely text book tackle! Awesome!
Onwards & upwards, off to Liverpool Collegiate this week.
See you there,
Dan
