The game started at a blistering pace considering it was the first run out of the season. Ben kicking things off and James chasing the kick down forcing the first big hit of the game. Through a few phases of play of Hoylake possesion, Anselmians forcing a knock on resulting in winning the first scrum with james going on to score the first try.
From the restart, taken well by Hoylake, the high pressure by James continued forcing an interception and again going on to score a brilliant individual try.
Hoylake at this point gathered themselves together forcing 2 quick tries before the first period was brought to a halt, honours even.
When play resumed Anselmians really got into top gear. James first scoring a 40 meter effort before scoring another with a brilliant piece of evesion rugby, only for it to be rulled out and play brought back to the scrum. Hoylake won the scrum but the Anselmians pressure continued, winning the ball back brilliantly with strong counter rucking and Sam running strongly to score another try.
More strong Anselmians play that Hoylake couldn't contain, with Joel, Archie and Max really being a thorn in Hoylakes side, continued with another quick, strong try, this time Amelia going over the line after another strong run!
Hoylake pulled one back before another 3 tries to Anselmians. Firstly the very impressive James with another run with pace and power scoring before Jim finishing off a really good team effort to score on his first outing. Amelia grabbing another to finish off a great team passing display including some nice play off another debut maker, Jacob, before the whistle going for half time with the score at 3-8.
Half time must have been where Hoylake saw the light and realised their errors, as they really came out a different team!
4 very quick tries, down to Anselmians switching off, missing too many tackles and basking in the half time scoreline, made the score a far less impressive 7-8.
The ever tigerish Ben, took the game by the scruff of the neck , and scored a very impressive try showing excellent agression to get the ball over the line to restore a 2 point lead.
A lead that wouldnt last as Hoylake, again easily avoided the Anselmians defence to level the game at 9 all with the third period of play brought to a halt.
Hoylake now with the impetus and momentum, scored another 2 tries after the restart, through good pressure and rugby rather than bad tackling, so no complaits there.
After the restart Anselmians, taking the ball well and moving the ball across the field, Sam moving well upfield but under pressure and being tackled, had fabulous support from the flying Thomas and the timing of the pass, was as brilliant as the handling, a sublime piece of play. Through the resulting pressure James again scoring another cracking try!
11-10 Game on with not long left!
Again more good pressure and rugby, from both sides i must say, saw Anselmians plough their way forward, and when the ball popped out to James, there was only one outcome. Try!

At this point, the game could have gone either way but i think the effort from Anselmians took its toll. The intensity was still very high but Hoylake went over twice before the end of the game to win 13-11.
A really enthralling game and a great spectacle that all of the kids can be proud of!
Saint of the week was James, a brilliant all round display that hoylake couldnt contain
