Anselmians and Wirral serve up a Sunday feast...........

jamie kimpton10 Oct 2011 - 12:30

Take a bunch of talented players, add some spice and introduce some quality opposition and bring to the boil, let it simmer for 40 minutes and you have yourself a rugby feast fit for a king……….

As one national coach sits in first class some 37,000 feet above the globe choking on an ice cold dish of French revenge, another junior coach was enjoying his own version of first class hospitality served up from his inspired U12s.
Steve and his Wirral troops visited Malone Field with fresh hope following their impressive early season form and didn’t disappoint in a game where the score line slightly flattered the home team.
On a small pitch Saints set about the job in hand with real purpose and raced into a 21 point lead within 15minutes, only to be pegged back by the opposition who were unlucky not to go into the interval closer than 21-12. Fine work by Will down the blind side saw boy wonder scamper in for his first competitive try, celebrations lasted long into the night in the Kimpton household (well they did for me anyway ) as rugby is quickly replaced by XBox and food for Will......
Ben O enjoyed a fine game at Centre probing the opposing defence for gaps and sniffing out the danger in defence. Sean H powered his way through the middle countless times and the Saints support was never far away.
At the interval there was a few changes in personnel and the pleasing thing being the strength in depth that allows us to make changes without upsetting the balance. Nathan C and Harry M had fine games considering they have only been playing for some 5 weeks and showed real awareness and appetite.
Star of the second half and Man of the Match performance must go to Liam who played the second period at Scrum half and added a further 2 tries to the one scored in the first half, a point to prove considering his Wirral counterpart continues to keep him out of the Wirral school A team.
Saints scored a further 26 unanswered points to bring a final scoreline of 47-12 .
We then played a further 20 minute session where it was agreed we would field a development team , this was an evenly matched contest . Charlie M danced in for both tries for a 10 - 10 scoreline. Great to see our new additions getting game time and growing in confidence, well done to one and all.
Special thanks to Steve,Alan,Tom,Paul and the whole Wirral squad for their part in an entertaining match. Thanks to Ken for his excellent officiating and to Sean,Jack,Adrian and Ian for your continued support.

Saints U12s you are a joy to coach, your improvement and attitude is excellent, let's take this with us to Mold for the festival next week, but we must be wary of the wounded Wirral beast as it returns to Malone Field in a few weeks for the Cheshire Cup match and it will be hurting.....
