Mavericks beaten by a late flourish

When the Mavericks arrived for their closest of their away fixtures spirits were high despite the weather and the inability by Sunlight to get the changing rooms open which led to changing in their clubhouse.
Tim aka "Paul Daniels" had pulled a rabbit out of his hat to get the Mavs 17 players. Thank you again Tim for your effort every week.
The game started off with a pounding run by Sunlight through the heart of the defence but tracking back and bodies on the line led to holding sunlight out. This became a common theme for the afternoon.
After a big grind in defence the Mavs were able to launch some attacks themselves, a line break by Martyn Brown led to the first try of the afternoon.
An amazing try saving tackle over the Mavs try line by Josh Farrelly saved Sunlight from a certain score in the corner.
The scrum provided the Mavs with a solid platform all game and led to a number of turnovers and another try. The forwards pushed Sunlight back on one scrum which led to a penalty and a near push over for Neil "the sniper" Brookes to steal the 2nd try of the match.
Sunlight then came back with one very well worked try and a try from a poor kick from Gordon that un-did the forwards effort. A further piece of forwards domination, after a sneaky re-start recovered by the returning Sam Fletcher led to him almost being a foot shorter when a Sunlight player put in a dangerous high tackle. This led to a penalty and the forward begged for a scrum. It led to another 1st half try for Neil Brookes, after the forwards being led by the front 5 ploughed through the Sunlight scrum.
The Mavericks took a slender lead going into the half and the message was to continue what we were doing well. Sunlight used this opportunity to make some changes that swung the game in their favour, as they benefited from some players not travelling to Oswestry.
The Mavs continued their forward domination but Sunlight managed to get some solid time in possession. The Mavs managed a further score through Les who took control of a number of rucks to pick up and score. A further score by Sunlight have them a slight advantage but after a number of drives, a slick movement of the ball put another Wallasey loanee, Ben away in the corner for another Mavs score.
A few lucky bounces from kicks and turn overs and Sunlight gaining a times some advantage in the scrums from the changes it led to the game being all square with 10 minutes remaining. The Sunlight pressure paid off and they squeezed in 2 tries to seal their victory. Unfortunately due to the late kick off Neil had to depart early and Jack also picked up an injury which Sunlight also capitalised from.
The Mavericks although defeated should take plenty of heart from a dogged and tough performance. The forwards had one of their most convincing performances by dominating scrums, rucking well, securing and stealing line outs. Ben Evans played well in the 2nd row being guided by Andy Barker who had another solid performance. The front row who probably are feeling it in the necks performed well for the full 80. The backs ran some good lines and made a number of important tackles.
Highlight of the game was when Plum went to secure an impressive knock down from Andy, and face planted the bouncing ball, cartwheeling over it and putting the ball back into touch.
The man of the match for the Mavericks this week has gone to Martyn Brown, who gave the Mavericks a lot of positive possession and made a number of important line breaks.
