A real points fest (with a little help).....

It was a typical autumnianl afternoon and there was a joyous spirit around the club. There was a buzz of excitement for the days exhiliatring fixture. The second instalment of the year between the Mavericks & Mold RUFC.
In true Mavericks spirit there was a variety of new and experienced faces. A welcomed return to the Mavericks colours was Spot & Nick Hearn. Also a big thanks goes to Phil who managed to add to his expert Patriot Deliveries the addition of faces from Wallasey Rugby Club.
The game started off in true Mavericks fashion with a mis-field from the kick off. Which led to some pressure on the team but the Mavericks scrum and strong defensive effort held off the battling Mold forwards.
After this short pressure the first try of the game developed. Nick Hearn was dynamic from the off. A well secured ruck led to clean ball for the impressive scrum half, who delivered a inch perfect pass to the on rushing Nick who burst through the tackle to make a clean break and score from 60 metres. The second try came in almost identical fashion where Nick broke through the line and burst through to score in the corner. The Mavericks with their tails up then bossed the first half, with support running and offloads. A turned over scrum led to a well delivered pass from Nick to Gordon who passed it out for Jordy (From Wallasey) to crash over for the try. Further tries from Tom Redfearn who had another impressive performance in the back line, Nev "the sniper" Pickard and Callum put the Mavericks in a strong position.
Just before half time after another impressive line break by Nick and support play by Andy Thompson led to a easy sprint for Captain G playing in the unfamiliar 9 position. And the last try of the half came from another backs break and an impressive pass from Ryan Williams to Gordon to trot over from 22m. Mold had worked hard in attack during the half and had scored 2 well worked tries.
The Mavs rung the changes in the second half and still kept up the early pressure. An inspired substitution by Capt G to bring Del, six-pence, Alderson at Scrum half led to another 2 tries inside 10 minutes, one handed to him on a plate by Jack from Wallasey.
Mold came back with their fighting spirit and started to get back into the game with 3 well worked tries coming from a real slugfest upfront.
The Mavericks put the finishing touches to a fantastic all round display with 2 break away tries from Jack & Andy Thompson.
