As anyone who manages a side or indeed helps to organise one knows, the hardest part is getting 18 lads every week who want to play.
Here we go then, lads are out warming up, referee is primed ready to go, bar staff are all ready and after match food is being prepared, it’s the only game on at the club. Wait there’s something missing, we’ve got no opposition, a quick phone call reveals they aren’t turning up, sorry didn’t anyone tell you, Didsbury yesterday’s late cry off was appalling.
We’ll take points and can on, so far this season we’ve used 70+ different players in the Ducks and had 30+ making their debuts,we’ve played less than 20 games so a settled side isn’t something we’ve been blessed with but everybody wants to be a Duck. Each and every lad that’s played as given their all and because of this we sit 3rd in the league with a game in hand on Warrington, the maths are simple, we win every game and we get promoted.
'Why someone might ask is promotion so important , the 1s sit top of their league, the Mavs sit top of theirs, promotion for all 3 sides is a distinct possibility, to be the one side to miss out would be a nightmare, what more fitting homecoming to the new clubhouse could there be.
Yesterday’s no fixture was annoying but testament to the togetherness within the club , 25 people then jumped in cars to go watch the Mavs beat Old Parks.
Onwards and hopefully upwards.
