After another traumatic week at selection. Unbelievably after last weeks games and wins all round, the lack of bodies this week put a strain on all concerned. Having lost eight players from last weeks team, the omens weren’t great, losing two more on saturday morning when you’re in work and can’t do anything about it is an absolute nightmare. Hey ho welcome back to Anselmian Rugby.
Although at the end of the day we were beaten by the better team I can only lavish praise on the boys that played. The boys defended like their lives depended on it at times and especially in the second half created no end of problems for a very good Altrincham side. The telling factor being the home teams celebrations at the final whistle. 29 - 7 was a fair result if you based it solely on the first half but the second half we definitely took the game to the opposition.
Magic moments, Tom Hutchinson realising before the game, he would up against some of his former pupils, the return of The Oldest Winger in Town as Toby came of the bench to replace Charlie. Everyone worked their plums off, no one feigned injury and the beers in the changing room afterwards tasted sweet.
In Charlie Ackers and Josh Caley we have two rough diamonds who after only a dozen games of rugby between them will prove to be useful acquisitions. Andy Barker did what he does best and puts himself about, the two Joes travelled together and both held up the front row with the evergreen Mike Potter, the four Toms confused everyone and all had decent games.
Duck of the Day as per usual was Nath Redfearn, as he keeps telling everyone, if you send him your vote he will collate them and let you know but seeing as he’s the only one that ever votes it’s a no contest.
Diffy Duck, now here’s the difficult one, when all the lads have a decent game and I was brilliant running the line and supplying the beer, there can only be one contender, it’s taken four or five weeks to be able to put a kit back on and get back on the pitch after retirement, to decide after forty years playing in the pack to put yourself on the wing as got to be the worst decision ever, Toby you must have been desperate, crates on you next week mate.
