On a day that started so well, Man United beat Liverpool, the Boys beat Old Bedes, it went downhill from there on in, England don’t compete with France and it got steadily worse from then.
Contrary to what some people think, we aren’t actually as bad as certain people think. After a slow start to the season where we lost three out of the first four and actually played the best two teams in the division in Wirral and LSH, we’ve since then only lost two from the next sixteen and if the pools panel hadn’t given us two draws from eminently winnable games, we would have truly been in the mix at the top.
We have without doubt a superb set of backs, in my humble opinion the best in the division, everyone of them having played 1st team this season at some point but what do I know. When we are able to get a full set of forwards out, we can compete with anyone, in Evo, Hastey and Chrissy Mc we have players with vast amounts of 1st team experience, in Tyler and Dylan we have two young men who will light up the 1st team in the next few seasons, in Liam Mc we have a young man who fresh from being at Saracens this week now moves onto Twickenham on Tuesday for the Daily Mail Vase Final, GOOD LUCK from everyone at Annies, even though you’re playing for Wirral. We are a lot better than our league position maybe suggests we are.
The game itself started really well with Saddo scoring two tries in the first three minutes, both of which he converted. Ben now spent the next 75 minutes trying not to get another one, he is that Duck who is as tight as its backside. The Lads went onto score five more tries before half time, H, Lids, TC, Lima and Donut. Ben missed two conversions. To be fair to Old Bedes they didn’t stop tackling and when they had ball in hand, they moved the ball with purpose. 45-0 half time.
The second half saw the introduction of Wigan Warriors very own Jack Stopford coming back into the fold, Liam Mc came on for TC, not quite the Allianz but McKinney Field is home. Tries from Liam, Captain Marvel got two, TC and H got another each and my favourite from Tyler, he was great around the park and his arrows were certainly on the mark. Ben missed two more conversions. Old Bedes got a well deserved consolation try and for the effort they put in the score perhaps doesn’t do them justice, they never gave in but on the Day our boys were on fire. 83-5
Now the RSBP are looking into an incident yesterday when one of our players actually kicked the Duck, the same individual actually bombed a chance I would have scored when I was playing it was that easy. In his defence he did say it was my fault as I was his coach for 12 years and never taught him to catch, he had a good point, however he still gets Diffy Duck and next weeks crate is on him, Jack Richards you are the man. Bad day all round for him (Liverpool fan, silly boy).
Duck of the Day had a fair few contenders, Harry had another good game, Dylan was everywhere, Tyler carried, tackled and was superb throughout, Ollie had a stormer and now will be missed for the next four weeks ($20 ), Kris leads from the front, steadying influence, encourages and scored a brace but Ben scored two, annoyed both the opposition and his own teammates, kicked like a dream and had a stormer, Saddo it is then.
Important note, although Jack is at Wigan Warriors and does get paid, he’s actually a physio, he’s the one who looked after the Old Bedes player when everyone was worried about a neck injury.
Next week sees our biggest challenge of the season, a Semi Final against LSH, they battered us at home just after Christmas when we didn’t show up and beat us at the start of the season at Moss Lane when we went to sleep for 20 minutes and let them run riot. Boys you know what’s needed, backsides down to training this week and let’s do ourselves justice at the weekend.
