After another interesting week in the life of a manager at Anselmians, we took the field with what was probably the strongest side we could have put out. Gents it neither use nor ornament saying I’m 50/50 or I’m available but many have to pull out later in week, you are either available or you aren’t, maybe’s as far as selection is concerned have to be considered as unavailable.
With Nath Redfearn, the Pied Piper of Anselmians, taking his six merry men off to Edinburgh for the weekend, and then losing eight players from last weeks team, selection was always going to be difficult. Now just to put the record straight after the comments of yesterday, NO that wasn’t our first team out there. Here are the 1st team regulars I was asked not to consider:-
1 Lewis Keen 2 Scott Southwell 3 Mario Quitadamo 4 Josh Jones 5 John Clarke 6 Niall Cavanagh 7 Nick Lamming 8 Lima Nonu 9 Liam Sadler
10 Andy Cummings 11 Adam Bramhall 12 Sammy Russell 13 James Worrall 14 Charlie Hough 15 Iain Taylor 16 Stu Costello. True our Club Captain did play but out of position and I did borrow a prop who would have played before but for the weather, sorry RANT OVER but snide remarks get on my #its.
So to the game itself, we played some absolutely superb rugby which was a pleasure to watch, we never gave Helsby a sniff, Captain Ben bossed the game, we scored six unanswered tries in the first half, Cam, Petto, Harry, Gilly, the Gazelle and my favourite by Ewan on his senior debut, there is a talent to keep your eyes on certainly didn’t look out of place.
In the words of Sean Attenborough Hastewell describing his favourite passage of play and indeed his idol “And there he is with ball in his hand, rushing across the grass, through the centre of the herd, the galloping gazelle that is Nicholas Hearn, standing at an imposing 2.134 metres tall he crashes over the line to score.” The man is bloody deluded. Still halftime 38 - 0.
The second half continued much like the first, we scored another seven tries, Nick, Brookesy, Saddo got two, Petto, Harry and Will before Helsby troubled young Harry and his mate on the scoreboard. From a penalty move ten metres out Helsbys smallest player ran straight over Martyn to score, in the most feeble attempt at a tackle I’ve seen at McKinney Field this season. Five minutes left to play and still Harry had time to bag himself another try to complete his hat trick.Full time 84 - 5.
There is now a strong feeling amongst the Lads that this season as the makings of something special, we need to keep working hard, getting down to training regularly and you never know.
Duck of the Day went to Harry Southern, bagged himself a hat trick, tormented his opposite number and had his best game for the Ducks so far this season, all he can do is keep putting pressure on Liam and if he doesn’t get a first team slot we’ll gladly keep hold of him until he does.
Now if you were Diffy Duck last week, I’m pretty sure you’d want to avoid it the following week, alas poor Browny, didn’t get the crate in for the lads, he provided Helsby with their only highlight of the game, he was the little Chink in our armour, he’s even said he can’t play next week so the crate will have to wait. Poor show all round, award thoroughly deserved.
The Colts play their last game this sunday and if Ewan is an example of the talent that is available to step up in the next few weeks the future bright. The Cloud hasn’t got a Silver Lining, it’s got a Blue and Gold one.
Mother Duck.
