Anyone looking at yesterday's result would think the Ducks were given a pasting away at Wirral, playing against a strong wind in the first half the boys found themselves two tries down after 20 minutes, they never let their heads drop and to their credit after some good backs play, a great offload in the tackle by Olly Loveday, Tagg scored out wide. Wirral were clinical all day and put themselves in a commanding position coming towards half time with two more tries. Again the boys came back at them and scored another try just on half time. 29-14 at half time and everyone believed (too many Liverpool Fans) it was game on in second half as we were now playing with the wind.
At the start of the second half, we spent the best part of 10 minutes peppering Wirral's tryline to no avail, a few bombed chances, a couple of wrong decisions and we failed to score the try that would have put us on the front foot. As always happen when you're playing a decent side, they soak up the pressure and then capitalise on a mistake and score a telling try, the boys never let their heads drop, played some decent rugby at times, tackled like their lives depended on it, but on the Day were beaten by a better team.
The 44-14 score line at the end of the game was harsh on the lads and indeed as Hastey said at the end of the game if we'd have played like that last week we'd have beaten Carrington, he wasn't wrong.
Positives from the game, Kris and Martyn in the centres, massive tackle counts for both and looked threatening in attack, Brookesy at full back, hit some great lines in attack and marshalled the defence well. Josh Farrelly made a promising Ducks debut on the wing and didn't look out of place, the evergreen Graham Keen, cheers mate. Duck of the Day went to Cal (Scooter) Graham, thrown in at short notice, had an absolute stormer in the back row, ball carries, big tackles and getting shot by that Japanese Sniper all in one day.
The loss of John Bentham at short notice on Friday was a big blow, a tour of Merseyside's hospitals on a Friday is no ones idea of fun, get well soon mate. Dylan O'Dowd to illness at dinner time Saturday wasn't great and Dom Nev jibbing his mates off to go to a festival isn't good, don't make yourself available Dom if you're going to cry off, grow a pair.
Diffy Duck for the 2nd week running goes to you know who, is there a pattern forming here?
Mother Duck.
