In a bad day for Liverpool in the F.A. Cup it reminded me of Alan Hansen's famous quote, he obviously knows as much about football as he does about rugby.
Another of our current crop of Colts made his senior club debut for the Ducks yesterday, Luke Cowley came off the bench in the second half and looked like he'd been playing for years, a big tackle first off settled any nerves he had and he followed it with a decent carry and then seemed to hit every ruck thereafter, Luke turned 17 last week. The younger McGowan was outshone this week by his two try scoring father but never the less had another decent game, with Dan Bristow, Mike Weatherston and Sam, the youth policy seems to be finally paying dividends again.
A 63 -0 victory to the Ducks, didn't do any justice to a spirited Collegiate team who had been stripped to the bone with late calls up to their 1st and 2nd teams, but hey ho we've all been there, as I've said before we can only beat what's put in front of us.
It was good yesterday to see John Armstrong getting a run out after a long term injury. Try of the day yesterday was shared by Sean Hastewell and Tom Redfearn, it was like watching 6 or 7 year olds, Tom makes a 40 yard twinkle toed break and passes to his mate Sean to score, Sean makes a bludgeoning 30 yard break and passes to his mate Tom to score, pathetic really but they enjoyed it.
Duck of the Day went to ever dependable George Birss, rises like a salmon in the line out, tackles like a man possessed, turns ball over and is absolutely everywhere, Top Man, top performance, Diffy Duck went to John Armstrong, first telling contribution of the season, giving a penalty away for a tip tackle, the referee apologised later for getting it wrong, compounded by losing the Duck.
Two big games in the next two weeks, Crewe in the cup next week followed by Helsby in the league, if we beat Helsby we're almost certain to get promoted, so everything to play for.
Mother Duck.
