After a troubled week at the Duck Pond or Malone Field as it's commonly known, how refreshing when something finally goes right.
With the number of cry offs and unavailabilities this week, the 1st team had struggled to get a side out to go to LSH, but put in a massive performance even if they were on the wrong end of the score. The Ducks managed to scrape together 14 bodies against Waterloo 3s, it's a good job Waterloo had only ten men on the day. Massive thank you them for actually turning up, it can't be easy getting ten men to play against the league leaders when you're bottom of that said league.
Credit to Ed Byrne who played for Waterloo on the day and after confusing everybody, even managed to give Waterloo a man advantage before the start of the game.
In a game that never actually got going, (uncontested scrums do the game no favours,) it resembled a rugby league game, the boys came away with another good win, 8 trys scored and non conceded again is pleasing.
It was always a high point for me when I was coaching when any of my colts played their first game for the senior club, yesterday saw one of the current crop of colts make his debut, congratulations to Liam McGowan son of our very own Chris McGowan on a sparkling debut, dad and lad together on the pitch, credit also goes to his coaches, if Liam's the first can't wait for the next one. Boys there's a game for you anytime you're available.
Another young man who's been quietly finding his feet with the Ducks is Mike Weatherston, yesterday he scored two trys any winger would have been proud of, his all around display both in attack and defence earned him along with Liam joint Ducks of the Day.
Liam's only mistake yesterday, losing the Duck, also won him Diffy Duck.
A big thank you from me personally to Connor Clayton, although you didn't play for us yesterday, you certainly got me out of a big hole, we missed you big time yesterday mate, hopefully you're available next week.
Mother Duck.
