With Ormskirk 3s unable to raise a side yesterday, the weather didn't come into the equation, another four points secured as we reach the halfway point in the season. After eleven league games and two cup games, the boys still haven't been beaten, indeed they have won every game. We've scored over sixty tries and only conceded eleven, our defence as been outstanding at times, we haven't conceded a try since the third week of October.
At the minute we sit ten points clear at the top of the division and will still be three points clear if St. Marys and Helsby win their games in hand, as they say so far so good. Our destiny this season lies firmly in our own hands.
At times we've played some great flowing rugby, our best performance in my humble opinion, the win against St.Marys two weeks ago, awesome in attack but even better in defence. We have used 44 different players so far this season, 20 of these lads have also played 1st team, equally satisfying 15 have also played for the Mavs, this is most definitely becoming one club once more after a few years of never the twain shall meet.
Highlights so far, Carl Neal and his girlfriend being serenaded by the whole club because "he'd lost that loving feeling," Jamie Owens getting chased across Birkenhead Market whilst running for the bus, Tyler Brookes fretting when he lost "The Duck" at New Brighton, grown men taking a Rubber Duck in the shower with them so they didn't lose it, mentioning no names (Oatesy, Matt B, & Connor). Ben Tagg spending half a game wondering what the new move was, when Ollie kept shouting Peggy at him against St. Marys, it's always good to know your team mates name. New boys in Theo, Ollie, Mike W and Dan B all settling in well and impressing every time they play. We would have had another new boy this week if the game had gone ahead with Liam McGowan son of Chris making his debut, disappointing for everyone concerned as he would have been the first of this years Junior Colts to have played for the Ducks.
A massive thank you to Alan Dear as without you mate, I wouldn't have managed.
Boys our season starts here, if we want to fulfill all the early season promise, we need to get down to training more often, let's not waste this great opportunity to have a tremendous season.
COUILLES DU CANARD or have the Ducks got the Balls to continue their winning ways?
