SOMETHING HAD TO GIVE.

SOMETHING HAD TO GIVE.

neil redfearn20 Nov 2016 - 15:19

When you're smiling, the whole world smiles with you.

Looking at the weather yesterday morning, there was only ever going to be one possible outcome to the game, bucketing down, grey, overcast, PERFECT WEATHER FOR DUCKS. A clash of the two unbeaten sides in the division, first versus second, two sides who both want to play decent rugby.
The lads yesterday, were never going to get beaten, St.Marys didn't show up, they are a better side than yesterday's performance showed. We were dominant in the scrum, ruined St.Marys line out, our backs always looked dangerous, and we defended like our life's depended on it. We haven't conceded a try in the last two games, (four if you count the two conceded games) which is a credit to each and everyone of the lads, the team spirit is unbelievable, it seems everybody wants to be a Duck.
First half tries from Harry and Toby and a penalty and a conversion from Ollie gave the boys a 15 - O half time lead, which playing up the hill and into the wind was no mean feat.
Impact substitutions seem all the rage in modern sport, be it rugby or football, our subs yesterday actually strengthened an already strong side, a massive thank you to Kel, Tom R and Brookesy, all worked yesterday and only turned up after kick off, came off the bench and helped secure victory. In the words of my less controversial son " I came on after 50 mins, with the score 15 - 0, played 30 mins and we won 33 - 0, must have been me that won us the game." God only knows what Nath would have said, probably " yes but he's SH*T."
A couple of tries in the second half from Peggy and Tom C, along with a couple of penalties from Wellsy wrapped up the game, St.Marys never looked like scoring yesterday but we know the game at Crosby in the new year will be a different proposition.
Apologises to Mike Weatherston who scored his first try in senior rugby last week for the Ducks, another 20 minutes under his belt yesterday can only benefit the team as the season progresses.
Diffy Duck went to our very own Golden Duck Steve Hearn, purely by default as he apparently knocked the ball on when over the try line. Duck of the Day was collected by Toby on behalf of the whole team.
The new award of Superhero Duck went to Brookesy for his recent performances with the 1st team.
The Ducks would like to say a massive thank you to our latest sponsor JOHN DERMOTT ROOFING for the new subs coats that should arriving this week.
Couilles du Canard.
