Not quite Danny Devito and Arnold Schwarzenegger, more Laurel and Hardy, but what a pair, one shared Duck of the Day, the other ran them very close. Connor, first name on the team sheet and not because he plays loose head, scrummages well, top tackler and is Mr Reliable, Campbell, mad as a March hare, (more Daffy Duck) organiser and plays what he sees in front of him, glad we had them both on Saturday.
This was the game we needed before next weeks cup game, Collegiate are definitely the best side we've played so far and credit too them for never giving up and pushing us very close.
The boys defended like their lives depended on it, joint Duck of the Day George Birss, was outstanding once again, tackling like a man possessed, winning all our ball at the line out and stealing more than is fair of Collegiate ball, best summed up I suppose by saying we didn't miss Toby at line out time today.
Then we come to Tony Soprano, I didn't realise when conned into helping out, you're accessible at all times, 2.45am morning of the game to confirm your availability takes the biscuit after not hearing from him since the previous Monday, we thought concrete wellies and the River Dee had come into play, but fair play to him, strong running and great scrummaging couldn't ask for more, he even scored a try.
The most pleasing part of the day wasn't our result, but the first team winning, we've had twelve players so far, play both 1s and Ducks, at times this has been a nightmare, but in the long run can only benefit the lads and the club, a massive positive.
Commitment from the boys this season has been brilliant, best summed up I suppose, with one lad driving back from Newcastle next Saturday to play and another travelling half the length of the country to make himself for the cup game.
Couilles du Canard!!!
