A local derby, two teams near the top of the table, both with some big wins behind them, all the ingredients for a great game of rugby.
What we also had in common was that both teams had lost a large number of players from last week through injury, unavailability and promotion to the 1st team.
The Ducks owe a massive thank you this week to Tim and the Mavs who had to cry off their fixture on Saturday morning to enable us to field a team.
We had lost six of last weeks starting back line, although at times you wouldn't have noticed, Tom Campbell on his return having another decent game, Dan Bristow and Mike Weatherstone youngsters coming up from the Mavs both had good games and certainly deserve another run out with the Ducks, both desperately unlucky not to score on their debuts. Two more Mavs in Andy Smith and Del Alderson showed that training regularly does really benefit you.
Having lost four forwards from last week, experience was the order of the day Sean, Kel, Toby and Spot all showing there is no substitute for roughly 180 years of knowledge.
So to the " Caped Crusader" aka Matty Moscrop, having turned up not expecting to play, Matt stepped up and played a full game for HOYLAKE and I have to admit I thought he was their man of the match, he was to say the least an absolute pain in the ass for us all day long, fair play mate, great game.
Credit also to Dan (the bar man) Wareing, again not expecting to play, not even bringing his boots, Dan got changed and stepped in for Hoylake when they lost a player through injury.
This brings us to the "Duck of the Day" and our "Diffy Duck", the second award was easy, Andy Smith don't ever leave the mascot with opposition again. It's a pity our star man can't play every week and I'm not sure he realises how good he could actually be, Harry Brett Roberts understanding at the breakdown, top tackler and a well deserved try can't say anymore about him. Let us know next time you can get time off work please.
A 47 - 0 win keeps near the top, with another difficult game at Collegiate next week, they've run into some form.
Once again thanks to the Mavs for stepping up, a win yesterday for the Mavaducks.
Mother Duck.
