DUCKS SEEM UP FOR THE CUP!

DUCKS SEEM UP FOR THE CUP!

neil redfearn15 Oct 2017 - 15:11

Could have been Lancashire, Manchester or Tatooine but no where at home.

The Ducks showed yesterday what we've only shown in patches so far this season, we aren't actually a bad side, when we decide we want to play. It did however take twenty five minutes, two sin binnings, what looks like a bad injury too Matt Spencer and a Didsbury TOC try to finally get ourselves going. The sin binnings came even after a pre-match warning by the referee about the new rule regarding high tackles, the recipients being Matt Brookes and Chris McGowan who had both watched an opposition player binned for the same offence before their transgressions. It must be said however all of the binnings were careless rather than malicious.

For the last sixty five minutes, the boys were clinical, fifty unanswered points against a decent Toc side who came to play rugby and never gave in or let their heads drop. Our penalty count again left something to be desired, we forced things too much at times and made bad decisions trying to over complicate things, it's a simple game when played well. Eight tries and five conversions, some great rugby at times, fierce tackling, a good line out, strong scrum and some great running lines, Boys it was actually at times good to watch.

Cam "Donut" Clayton had an eventful afternoon, two tries, avoided a jug, tripped over a water bottle and lost the DUCK, but that's Cam for you, there could only ever be one Diffy Duck. Tom Campbell showed again what he can do when he's available, Dylan O'Dowd had another great game, Lammo did what Lammo always do (no need to elaborate) and Tyler always wanted the ball and continued to hold up his side of the front row.

Duck of the Day went to Ben Sadler, as he knows I've been one of his harshest critics this season, yesterday he ran the game, got the backs going forward, played the game in the right areas and showed he's definitely got the talent to step up to the 1st team if and when he's needed.

Next round of the cup could have sent us to Lancashire, Manchester or Tatooine but we've secured a home draw, the website says Rossendale but me thinks it's Old Bedians 2s who beat them yesterday. Old Bedes are 2nd in our division and will proof a stern test, as I keep saying Boys, get your lazy backsides down to training, you never know you might enjoy it.

Mother Duck

SORRY ALMOST FORGOT.

Try of the season was scored yesterday, a searing two yard break, hitting the gain line like an Exocet, side stepping the opposition and swallow diving over the line, Chrissy Mc it was awesome or awful not quite sure, but it deserved a mention all on its own.
