Preview – Winnington Park.
After the wonderful triumph at Birkenhead Park to overcome Lymm to reach the Cheshire Cup final, Anselmians return to the “day job” of two outstanding games in the league away to Winnington Park and the rearranged home fixture against Leigh.
Unfortunately, 30th April, is the Cheshire Cup final against Sandbach at Stockport when we are scheduled to play against Leigh. At the time of writing, the authorities were still debating which game would take place.
It seems an age away when the first League game at the Eastham Pavilion took place last September when Anselmians announced their ambition. The first League opponent was Winnington Park and Saints won 69-13. Park were not a bad side, but Anselmians were magnificent that day.
Winnington Park are currently fourth having won thirteen, drew one and lost seven of their twenty. -one games. Indeed, they should be higher, despite surprising defeats to De La Salle, St. Benedict’s and Bolton. In fact, their inconsistency meant that they have only once won three games together.
Rochdale are pursuing Saints and, with Home Walk Overs, are only four points behind. That means that both Winnington Park and Leigh must be defeated if Anselmians are to be champions of North Two West. There’s the small matter of the Cheshire Cup final against Sandbach, as well.
It’s going to the last day of this 2021-2022 season.
