“The Aliens” are one of the oldest rugby clubs in Liverpool and have a distinguished history. There are many connections between Anselmians and Sefton and they are having a difficult season. Their only victory in 2020 was at home to Southport, but Saints will not underestimate their task.
Sefton are currently fourteenth in North Two West having won four and lost sixteen of their twenty matches. They are five points off the thirteenth side, Eccles, and the latter has a game in hand.
They lost their first five games but won consecutive games against Tarleton and Winnington Park before arriving at Rivacre Road last November to renew their rivalry with Anselmians. In a close, forward dominated contest Saints just prevailed 22-15.
Before the leagues were introduced, Sefton was a staple fixture for Anselmians, but we had not played them since we were in South Lancashire/Cheshire 1 several years ago.
The Saints will want a return to winning ways but, given the difficulties evident in our last game against Leigh, nothing can be taken for granted. Understandably, Sefton will want to end this miserable run and will see this game as an opportunity.
