This Saturday we visit Stockport for our second away game in North One West.
As recently as 2011, Stockport were National League Three champions and, since changing their name from Davenport in 1992, have enjoyed success at the higher levels of north-west rugby.
The one exception was in season 2016-17 when they were relegated to North One West with the unenviable record of playing 26 games and losing them all.
Since then, they have recovered. In 2017-18, they finished a respectable fifth and they are currently sixth, having gathered an impressive nine points from just two games.
This is Stockport’s first home game this season. Two weeks ago Douglas were due at Headlands Road but the game had to be cancelled because of aircraft troubles in the Isle of Man.
In their first game at Penrith they won 50-36 and last week they came away from newly promoted Broughton Park with a 24-10 win.
Our two clubs have only met occasionally in the old Cheshire Cup in the 70s and 80s and Saints will have to be at their best to score the first points of the season.
