This weekend, Anselmians host Widnes for the second time in a fortnight.
Two weeks ago, we visited Heath Lane and, coming from behind, managed a vital five point win, 22-18, against a determined and well-organised side.
Last week, we had a Medics exemption, but Widnes entertained New Brighton. In what was probably a terminal blow to “The Seasiders’” survival plans, Widnes ran riot and triumphed 39-10.
Today’s fixture is the first of three consecutive home games before we play our final game at Leigh, probably in May. With LSH losing 10-26 at Glossop and with two games in hand, our fate is now in our hands, especially as “Fortress Eastham” has not surrendered this season. Crucially, we have to play champions-elect, Broughton Park on 28th April and they have to visit Liverpool St. Helens.
Of course, Widnes will be intent on revenge, but Saints’ hard work this season and the expansive game they play will guarantee an exciting open game.
Anselmians know promotion is there for the taking, but the next four weeks must see the final last effort to gain the coveted play-off berth for the chance to go up to North One West.
