This weekend, we welcome the other Wirral side in our division, Hoylake. Having seen off the challenge at New Brighton last weekend, Anselmians will be confident, but traditionally, games against “the ‘Lake” are close. They are currently eleventh, and did not play last week when their game against Manchester Medics was a victim of the weather.
Hoylake returned to this division at the first time of asking at the end of 2016-17, finishing second to champions Tyldesley, and doing so in some style, losing only three games all.
Thus far, they have had an inconsistent season, mixing admirable two point victories against Southport and Bowdon with two defeats against leaders Broughton Park when they failed to score a point in both games, losing 0-31 at home and 0-59 away.
Our visit to Melrose Avenue last autumn was successful. We emerged with a hard fought victory 24-7 on what was a wretched day for both players and spectators. Hoylake supporters will not need reminding of three consecutive one point defeats at home between 2014 and 2016 and will be determined to avenge their defeat last October.
Anselmians will need to be at their best if they are to prevail. As usual, spectators can look forward to an open and entertaining game.
