We are very sad to share the news of the passing of Fred Howard, a respected international rugby referee and much loved friend of Anselmians Rugby Club. In recent years, Fred became a familiar and welcome face at our pre-match lunches, where his stories, insight, and genuine affection for the game were enjoyed by all who spent time with him.

Fred’s contribution to rugby extended far beyond the whistle. He continued to give back to our sport as a referee assessor, offering guidance, encouragement, and wisdom to officials at all levels. His presence around the club was always warm, thoughtful, and generous, and he quickly became part of the Anselmians family. Fred will be remembered with great respect and fondness, and he will be deeply missed by everyone at the club.
