Heaton Moor Colts 24 - 28 Anselmians Colts

The Colts travelled to top of the table Heaton Moor with only a win good enough to keep hopes alive in the Halbro Colts League.

After a slow start and some nervous errors the Saints found themselves quickly 12-0 down inside the first 10 minutes.

However, they gradually took control of the game and dominated possession and field position. This led to two smart scores from Dan Woods and Matt Bowden for a first half deficit of 12-10.

The second half started much in the same vein with the Saints dominating and proving to be the far better rugby side. A solid forward drive laid the platform for the ball to be shifted quickly out wide for Dan Woods, who looked dangerous throughout, to score his second of the game to edge the Saints in front, 12-15.

A sloppy restart gifted Moor field position from which they capitalised and took the lead 17-15.

More Saints pressure and control forced Moor into poor discipline and Matt Bowden edged the Saints ahead with a 45 metre penalty.

The hosts were clearly rattled and conceded a further penalty minutes later which was again duly despatched by Bowden, 17-21.

As Moor desperately searched for a score on the Saints 22 pressure from Jake Hulmes on the opposing number 10 forced a sloppy pass. Bowden edged his boot on to the ball, collected and raced half the length of the field to secure the points with a brilliant solo try, converted by Joe Willis 17-28.

The hosts scored what could prove to be a valuable bonus point try with the last play of the game but there was no denying the superb Saints the final result. An awesome team performance.
