This weekend we return to Rivacre Road to host Liverpool side, Sefton, after our week off. Connections between ourselves and Sefton are close and longstanding and all Anselmians will be sad to hear of the passing of Sefton's Gerry McBride, one of several members who supported both clubs.
As recently as 2013, Sefton were champions of South Lancashire/Cheshire 2 and, until the formation of North Two West this season, were respectably placed in Lancashire/Cheshire division 1.
They are currently 13th, having won two of their seven games. However, their two victories have been in their last two games. They narrowly won at home against Tarleton and their last game was an impressive visit to Winnington Park beating the Cheshire side 26-29. Their latest fixture, at home to Aspatria, was postponed.
Games with Sefton are invariably close and we last met in our promotion season, 2017-18, where we won 14-25 away and prevailed at Malone Field 27-14. It will be pleasant to meet old friends, but there will no quarter asked or given on the pitch and and Saints will need to be at their best to extend their unbeaten home run.
