This Saturday, we welcome Leigh to Malone Field. This is the first home 2.15 kick-off of the winter, so supporters should arrive in good time.
Whilst Anselmians were losing at Broughton Park last Saturday, Leigh were defeating Manchester Medics. Their 31-5 win was their fourth victory of this campaign and added to triumphs over Sefton, Hoylake and New Brighton.
Clearly, they like playing on Merseyside!
Leigh, having spent several years in North One West, were relegated last season. Their six wins out of twenty-six games insufficient for their survival.
In our first year in North One West in 2011-12, we lost at Round Ash Park, 7-32, in the October, but won at Eastham, 14-3, in January 2012. Both clubs survived and ended the season with 51 points each. In our second and final season at the higher level, we lost heavily in December 2012 away, 10-53, and were also beaten in the return game, 12-29.
Leigh, like ourselves, are currently rebuilding and it will be interesting to see how Anselmians react to last week’s reverse at league leaders, Broughton Park. Both sides play expansive rugby, and it is to be hoped that the crowd witness another open and exciting game.
