We should have come away with something from this one

Two well-matched teams competed fiercely in this very competitive game

Matty Dowler
- Voted Saints' M-O-M by Glossop

Glossop were strong in the scrums, fierce in defence and attacked aggressively through their forwards. Saints had the better line-out, were more innovative with ball in hand and tackled magnificently. This was an extremely close encounter between two very committed teams. The home team just about deserved their win but Saints, at least, should have come away with a losing bonus point if not all four.

That said, we gifted two tries to the hosts in the second half; the first from a charged down kick and the second from spilled handling on our own line. Both these errors were forced by strong Glossop attacks in torrential rain.

We also lost man of the match, Matty Dowler, and the influential Lima Nonu, early in the second period, to slightly weaken our defensive walls. They clashed heads tackling the same Glossop player and knocked each other out. HIAs for both of them will probably require their absence from the Leigh game next Saturday.

The two best passages of play belonged to Anselmians, producing superb tries for Liam McGovern and Mark Petterson.

On the evidence of this game and others in this division, to date, there is very little between the top 10 teams and anyone of them could be candidates for promotion. Time will tell.

A full match report, by Geoff Smith, will appear shortly in the "Match Centre."
