A warm welcome to the players, officials and travelling supporters of ASPATRIA RUFC

A warm welcome to ASPATRIA
- Jamie Kimpton DOR

First of all on behalf of us all at Anselmians I would like to congratulate the “Black Reds “for reaching todays play off final after a fine season in North Lancs & Cumbria 1 where they finished runners up after holding off a brave fight from Bolton for the playoff position .

Aspatria have a rich rugby pedigree dating back as far as 1875 , having produced many fine players including Steve Hanley, David Pears & George Doggart who have all gone on to represent Sale as well as Rob Miller who was the Aviva Premiership leading try scorer for London Wasps in the 2011/12 season .

Saints have had some magnificent matches and occasions at Malone Field in our 70 yr history, but it somehow seems fitting that we will again enjoy a big rugby day as we sign off for a Nomadic season away whilst our new facilities are built.

The season feels like it’s been 2 seasons long but we remain unbeaten at home this term after some Herculean efforts of late against table toppers Broughton Park and the excellent Bowdon .

The squad has prepared well and not withstanding our talismanic skipper and this seasons players player of the year Nick Hearn who is recovering well from a broken ankle and Mario Quitadamo who dislocated his shoulder against BP, Andy has a full squad to select from.

The excellent Jim W Wainwright continues to be the cornerstone of the Saints pack and he is joined by Scotty Southwell and Jack Richards making a very combative front row at this level.

Nial and our clubs young player of the year Clarkey continue their impressive partnership in the row, whilst the back row is made up of Lamo, Lima and recent star performer Will Grabe.

Behind the scrum H plays his last game at 9 for the Saints before his sabbatical to study history somewhere in the “Welsh valleys” , the excellent midfield trio of Andy C , Liam (player of the year) and Sammy continue to make the plays whilst Adam and Charlie are joined in the back three by Iain .

Our “Impact finishers” today are Kel, Josh, Campbell & Gilly.
Whatever the result today it’s been a magnificent season with too many people to thank other than the players who today have the opportunity to make their own bit of Anselmains history.

Please crank up the noise today as it really makes a difference to the players , let’s put 70yrs of Anselmians passion behind it and make it a day to remember. But please be mindful of our opposition and match day officials .
