The first team secured a vital win away at Widnes on Saturday; never an easy venue. This victory keeps them well in the promotion race. They are now just 6 points behind second placed Liverpool St Helens with a game in hand.

The fight for second place and a “play off” place looks like going to the wire. Division leaders, Broughton Park, look likely to win the division and take the one automatic promotion spot but, who knows, they have to play both ourselves and LSH. Whomever finishes second goes into the play off against the second placed team from North Lancs for the second promotion place to North One West.

With Manchester Medics having dropped out of the league the first team have a day off this coming Saturday whereas LSH have to travel away to Glossop; a difficult place to win as we well know. Let’s hope Glossop do us a favour!

It was sad to see the Medics drop out but it actually helped us points wise. All the Medics results were expunged, having played them once we lost 5 league points but both Broughton Park & LSH had played them twice and therefore both lost 10 points.

The first team’s next fixture is Widnes again this time at Eastham on 14th April. Normally, home & away fixtures are well spaced out but last Saturday’s was a re-arranged game having been a victim of the weather back in December.

Results from South Lancs / Cheshire 1
Last Saturday all the games had been re-scheduled after being victims of bad weather on their original date.

Southport 25 Glossop 39
Tyldesley 31 Hoylake 14
West Park 26 New Brighton 7
Widnes 18 Anselmians 22

The Crusaders (2nd XV) had a very satisfying home win over high flying Wirral at Eastham on Saturday, always good to win a local derby. They are currently in 6th place in Div. 3 South, considering they were promoted at the end of last season this has been a great achievement. The team have played some great rugby this season. All credit to Neil Redfearn, Alan Dear and the players. They have four fixtures left, three of them away so a mid table finish is likely.

This coming Saturday they play their final home game of the season when they take on Lymm at Eastham. Like South Lancs / Cheshire 1, the games played in Div. 3 South on Saturday had been bad weather causalities.

Results from Div. 3 South:

Aldwinians 3 10 Broughton Park 3 66
Anselmians 2 26 Wirral 3 10
Lymm 3 71 Didsbury Toc H 3 22
Manchester 2 7 L'pool St Helens 2 39

The Mavericks (3rd XV) had no league match on Saturday so arranged a friendly against Flint 2 on Saturday coming away with a 24 – 12 victory, they have quite a tough fixture to look forward to this coming Saturday when they face second placed Ellesmere Port 2 at Eastham.

The Mavericks only have three league games remaining, one at home this week and then two away. They were due to travel away to Tarleton on consecutive Saturdays 21st & 28th April but Tarleton only have two pitches we would have had three fixtures to accommodate on the 28th so after talking to the league it has been agreed that the game on the 21st will be a “double header”

Results from Div. 5 West:

Ellesmere Port 2 P B'head Park 3 P
Helsby 2 48 Mossley Hill 2 34
Prenton 3 P Tarleton 3 P
St Edwards OB 1 56 Parkonians 2 15

Club Website
The club would like to get members and supporters to use the club website more as a source of information and communication and to increase our site rankings.

There has been much more activity in recent weeks and we are trying to populate the site with more information, progressively, to increase visits to the site.

The club would encourage everyone to register with the site, listing as much information as they are comfortable with; email address, phone, biogs for players etc., etc. and persuade them to log on frequently.

The more information members and prospective members are able to access, the more attractive we become as a club and the more loyalty we attract in turn.

Please log onto the club website and register as a member or supporter.

Visit the "Match Centre" for detailed match reports.

Annual Subscriptions
